Criminal law is often defined very narrowly. It is considered primarily for people who have been formally charged with offenses under the Criminal Code of Canada.
However, I noticed people had criminal-related problems that were far broader than criminal charges. So, I decided to create a law practice that addressed how criminal-related problems worked in the real world.
A great deal of how I approach the law today has come from decades of helping people who had or were retired from good jobs, were highly regarded in their communities, and usually had no criminal records. But, they had problems related to criminal law!
Within that framework, the focus is on criminal defense work, especially providing criminal-related legal advice. I also appear in court for all types of criminal and driving offenses. My sub-specialty is defending tax offenses.
Dealing with governments, police and other investigators, and prosecutors and judges on your behalf is strongly supported by my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carleton University in Political Science, with a minor in Economics, followed by a Law Degree from the University of Ottawa. Since being called to the Bar of Ontario in 1987, I have practised mainly as a sole practitioner in criminal defense, and I've also founded a criminal law legal research and writing business, practised in a large law firm, and I was an Ottawa Assistant Crown Attorney. All of these experiences help me to help you.
