Especially since the pandemic, the legal system may seem to you to be a confusing and intimidating minefield. I understand the system and negotiate on your behalf, so you receive all your legal protections. Even more, as a skilled negotiator, I navigate encounters with police and prosecution so you can avoid charges, or have charges withdrawn or reduced.
If your case ends up in court, you'll benefit from my advocacy skills. Having litigated extensively both as a defence lawyer and as a crown prosecutor, I have unique insight to help you achieve a successful result.
Communications between you and I are confidential from the first telephone call. Your privacy is granted certain protections through the principles of solicitor-client privilege, client confidentiality, my professional duties, and my office privacy policies.

Defence Lawyer, B.A. LL.B. Ontario
I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carleton University in Political Science, with a minor in Economics, followed by a Law Degree from the University of Ottawa. After an excellent articling position in criminal law, and bar exams, I was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1987. Since then, I have practised mainly as a sole practitioner, and I've also founded a legal research and writing business, practised civil law in a large law firm, and I was an Assistant Crown Attorney doing criminal prosecutions.
In addition to defense work, crown work, and being a professional legal researcher and writer, I practice administrative law and appear before many tribunals for matters such as immigration, taxation, and landlord/tenant. When it intersects with criminal law, I represent clients in their family law matters. I appear on quasi-criminal matters in provincial offences court, and defend against investigations of various professionals and businesses such as doctors, nurses, and salespersons including real estate agents.
My practise also includes representing people who may not be facing charges or investigations but who need advice from a criminal law expert about the criminal justice system. For example, victims and witnesses have retained me for advice as they go through the criminal justice system.
By way of community service, I develop and deliver legal information workshops and I have presented as a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa law school and to the Ottawa Association of Law Clerks, as well as to private groups.
My clients are regular people, often older, many of whom have no criminal records, who find themselves in situations that could affect their employment, mobility, reputation, education or liberty. As well, many lawyers refer their family members and friends to me (and sometimes retain me for themselves). Any time that you find yourself in a difficult legal situation - call me - I have the expertise to personally handle files of every complexity.
